Colonel Filomena R. Manor Memorial Donation

In 1986 Colonel Manor, along with seven other Air Force dietitians, set the groundwork for the founding of RAFDA. Over the years, Colonel Manor was a very generous donor to RAFDA and in fact was a Platinum Patron.

Colonel Manor had a pioneering role in encouraging young women to consider military service. She was the first officer in the country to be commissioned from civilian life in the newly created Air Force Women’s Medical Specialist Corps.

Close to Colonel Manor's heart was the creation of the Women in Military Service For America Memorial. Created in 1997, the WIMSA Memorial, at the Ceremonial Entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, is the only major national memorial honoring all women who have defended America throughout history. Their patriotism and bravery are a part of our nation's heritage. Visitors to the Women's Memorial experience the collective history of women in the military along with the individual stories of registered servicewomen. The Women's Memorial:

  • Recognizes all women who have served in or with the United States Armed Forcesundefinedpast, present and future.
  • Documents the experiences of these women and tells their stories of service, sacrifice and achievement; makes their contributions a visible part of our history.
  • Illustrates their partnership with men in defense of our nation; and serves as inspiration for others. The Women's Memorial was dedicated on October 18, 1997, and is endorsed by the Departments of Defense, Transportation, Veterans Affairs and Interior.
  • The Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization that depends on the donations of individuals, corporations, organizations, and state and local governments to equip and maintain the education center, theater and exhibit areas, expand the permanent artifact collection, and continue to locate and register eligible women.

The RAFDA board encourages its members and friends to contribute to the maintenance of the WIMSA Memorial and support of its mission. To make a donation to the WIMSA Memorial click Here.
